A little about the plastic springs I used
They can be found at any party store or in most birthday party isles of regular stores.  They are the colorful coiled bits of plastic usually found in the bottom of birthday party treat bags, vending machines and cheap ticket prizes at some pizza places. They usually interest a child for about 1 minute, maybe two, then what?

What can you do with them?  I decided to challenge myself to try and incorporate them into crochet. As you can see, some of my ideas translated into reality better than others, but they were all fun to make.

Attaching the Springs
For the most part they are either sewn on or glued on. In some cases the spring is twisted into the crochet and sewn to the wrong side like in the Plastic Springs Topped Funky Hat
